European University on Youth Policies

The European University on Youth Policies, also known as the Summer University, gathered 40 representatives of ministries responsible for youth issues and of youth organisations from across Europe.

The Summer University, which took place at the European Youth Centre Budapest on 29-31 August 2017, aimed at improving participants’ understanding of European approaches to youth policy. It familiarised them with the values, objectives, programmes and structures of the Council of Europe and its Youth Department. Participants also exchanged knowledge and views on youth policy issues relevant to debates taking place in the Council of Europe’s youth sector. The programme of the Summer University alternated inputs with on-site field visits, allowing participants to explore the practical implications of youth policies.

The programme also specifically covered the Council of Europe’s standards for youth policy, including in the field of youth mobility. In this context, the Summer University tested a draft self-assessment tool for youth policy. The positive and constructive feedback provided by participants was integrated in a revised version of the tool, to be adopted by the CDEJ in October 2017.
